The first thing I said to myself when I saw the room was... wonder why she didn't paint the brick? Please come over to my last post and weigh in on my question regarding what to do with the ends of my island. I would appreciate it.
http://theothermeissane.blogspot.com
At Rivercrest Cottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12068816102263605128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7459400132166733757.post-80407699184453033252014-08-18T16:08:33.749-05:002014-08-18T16:08:33.749-05:00Thanks, Kris. Thanks, Kris.Katie Mansfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00016424092009814488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7459400132166733757.post-61908427523650361942014-08-18T16:08:14.358-05:002014-08-18T16:08:14.358-05:00Actually that is the way the bricks came. Love the brick how it is now but I really think you will see a big difference if you paint them. Good luck with what you decide to do.
KrisJunkchiccottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13312068546640480844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7459400132166733757.post-50578349604112891712014-08-18T12:39:47.104-05:002014-08-18T12:39:47.104-05:00the bricks to me look like the have been spot pain...the bricks to me look like the have been spot painted. i would paint them white and if you do paint the wall i would paint them in soft yellow like a shade or two from what you have on the wall now.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16009019295304872840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7459400132166733757.post-62680113573739681472014-08-18T08:39:39.333-05:002014-08-18T08:39:39.333-05:00Thanks, Kelly. The walls need some paint just because it has been 8 or 9 years and they are looking a little dinged up. I...I love the fireplace surround the way it is now. If you had just painted the existing mantle and not done anything else, it wouldn't have worked.

But as for white-washing the brick, I say no. I think it will be too much white. The brick is already a great color brick. A gray-ish brown brick, as opposed to a harsh, bright red brick. It breaks up all of the white accents already in the room, and also brings contrast to the light-colored, neutral painted walls. Which, by the way, I don't think needed changed either.

Just some thoughts! But I love everything you do anyway.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16982587883634661539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7459400132166733757.post-82511673221965213062014-08-17T20:08:20.012-05:002014-08-17T20:08:20.012-05:00I had no idea that you built the mantel surround. ...I had no idea that you built the mantel surround. That looks amazing! I think painting the bricks around it would be nice too. However, I like the contrast that it has now though as well. But I am a huge fan of painted brick, so I guess that's why I lean that way. I hope your MIL gets better. Oh, and I say "y'all", but I don't always write it that way. Don't get me wrong, it looks really good already. Since you asked, I only mentioned it as a change when you get tired of this. robynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11667599811986761729noreply@blogger.com
