Whirlwind and Wonderful Trip To New York City

Let's Add Sprinkles Blogger, Katie Mansfield

I thought about playing a game with you.
Where in the world is Katie Mansfield?
I have been chomping at the bit to share my good news with you.

Jet, GameStop, Corporate

My brother is an executive for a Fortune 500 company based in Texas.
When the corporate jet is almost full but not full, family members can hitch a ride.
My brother was telling me that he was headed to New York on business and he planned to meet all the cousins for dinner one night.
This is how much fun it looked last time.

I wished aloud that I could stow on the plane.
He got it approved and I was good to go.

Gamestop Jet Seating

Wednesday morning he and I boarded the corporate jet.

It was an amazing, pampering experience.
Not having to go through airport security is a plus.
A storm and a V.I.P caused a change of airports.
We were cleared to land in White Plains which was perfect because our driver took us through some familiar neighborhoods.

We stayed at the Lotte New York Palace.
It is gorgeous.

I did a little shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue.

I was suddenly surrounded by crowds and barricades as I tried to find Rockefeller Center.
We weren't going anywhere until the president's motorcade went by.
He was in filming The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

This was crazy! There were so many black vehicles that it was impossible to tell which one he was in.
There was almost a riot as the crowd shouted for the NYPD to move the barricades.
"We're paying for this. Let us go."
There was a police presence on that corner all afternoon.
It was truly a "Best Day".

The next morning my son met me for bagels and coffee.
What has happened to New York coffee cake?
I didn't see it anywhere.

Everything Bagel New York

Chris and I walked through Central Park.

I had my heart on seeing some statues and iconic landmarks.

It was a gorgeous day.

We had a great time.

We made our way through the park to the American Museum of Natural History.
The Titanosaur in a new exhibit that will be open from January 15, 2016 to January 1 2020.
It is unbelievable.
Read about it here

I'm sure we barely scratched the surface at this museum but we were hungry again.
We found a great Italian place where I indulged in my favorite dish.

After lunch we made our way back through the park to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

It is one of my favorite places on earth.

I've been there countless time on school field trips.

I see something new every time.
I think Bill should start dressing like this guy.

We could not walk another step.
I should clarify.
I couldn't walk another step so we got an Uber to take us back to the hotel.

The hotel was across the street from St. Patrick's Cathedral.
I was obsessed with how the light hits this gorgeous, recently restored church.

Blue Helmsley Building

The clock was created in 1893 for the World's Fair to commemorate Columbus' discovery of America.
It is just stunning.

Oddly, I was walking to a store on 5th Avenue when I came upon another set of barricades.
Trump was in town and was getting ready to leave Trump tower.
Gone are the days when politicians shake hands and wave.
We were threatened with jail if we didn't get moving.
These presidential types are just like us aren't they?

I love New York!
It's a wonderful place.

Goodbye, New York.

  1. What a fabulous experience, Katie! You surely went in style! Your photos are terrific. I drove into the city that day Obama was there taping Fallon, but fortunately, I was about 10 blocks south, and wasn't affected. Jail if you didn't move away for Trump? Insane! But do tell...did you buy those Jimmy Choo's?

  3. Oh, what a wonderful whirlwind visit!

I used to go to New York with my sister when she was on business. She would work all day and I would explore. But, I paid for my own ticket and didn't get the VIP treatment!

    Thanks for sharing with SYC.
