We got an adorable tin picnic basket from Bill's mom when she sold her big house.
Adorable, I tell you!
One of the wooden handles was broken.
I asked Bill if he could fix it for us.
He said "No"!
That was surprising because Bill can fix everything.
16 years went by but I just knew there had to be a fix for the handle.
I cut a piece of leather to go across the back of the handle.
I glued the leather onto the handle joining the break.
A nut and bolt on each side of the break provide added stability to the fix.
The drill bit went through the leather and the wood.
I was afraid the old wood would split when I drilled the holes but it didn't.
When in doubt, drill pilot holes.
This little picnic tin has been used in numerous vignettes over the years.
The fix has held perfectly.
I chalk this one up to old fashioned ingenuity.
It reminds me of fixes done by my grandfather during the great depression.
Bill was impressed.
I'm thrilled it is fixed.
Have a wonderful weekend!
