September Morn

Happy September Eve!

I'm glad August is almost over.
I've not been a big fan for quite a while.
There is the bittersweet loss of sublime freedom even though there is excitement about being back at work for a new school year.
This year there was also a little panic that I might not be able to keep up with my family, my work and my blog.

Everything is going well so far.

The yearly cycle of school starting has me feeling renewed as September rolls around.

50+ years of being on a school calendar makes me feel that September is more of a new year than January.

Even though there hasn't been much in the way of a weather change, cooler temps are on the way in a few weeks.
I can't wait.

I worked a few apples into the decor this weekend.

We've had the vintage alphabet blocks for a long time.

I can't remember where I got the certificate of merit but it looks very old.

The red apple and black transferware is just too pretty.

The slate was my mom's or grandmother's.

The pencil container was my mom's.
I love that I can still see the handwriting after all these years.

Oh, I love September!

Pranking the Husband

Over Christmas break I noticed that I was not sleeping well.
My bed was uncomfortable and I had aches and pains in the morning.
That is not supposed to happen with a Sleep Number Bed.

I dug around in my husband's bedside table to find the remote for our Sleep Number Bed.
My side was set on 15. Normally it is set on 35 or 40.
What?
No wonder.
I was practically sleeping on the plastic, Lego like box spring.
I sent Bill a text telling him all about it.
I thought that the remote pushed against a book or something in the drawer and therefore deflated by accident.
Bill's response to my text was "oops".

That night at dinner, we were recapping the day and I was telling him how surprising it was that the sleep number setting could accidentally adjust.
He confessed that he set my sleep number to 15 at least two weeks before and then forgot he pranked me.
He assumed I would figure it out as soon as I got in bed.

At that moment, I began to plot my revenge.
I know the Bible says that "revenge is mine," saith the Lord,

but...

I decided that time was on my side and I took my time enacting revenge.

I planned to turn on his heated seat, all summer!
So every once in a while this summer, I've been turning on his seat.
Internally, I'm laughing hysterically that he hasn't figured out that I'm exacting my evil and insidious revenge.
Each time it took a while before his back side was smoldering.
He even shouted out, "Why does my seat keep turning on?"
Glee!

The other night he asked me if I'd adjusted his sleep number as payback.
Silly!
I informed him that I'd been exacting my revenge but it wasn't by pranking him the way he had pranked me.

He began to try to figure out how I had been getting back at him but he couldn't, of course.
Ha ha ha!
Well, I tipped my hand last night by turning the seat on twice.
He figured out I had turned it on.
He didn't realize until my Facebook post, however, that it was pay back for the Sleep Number incident.
I'm sad the prank is over and I will be watching and waiting for him to prank me.

Unfortunately, I didn't turn on his seat the week it was 107 degrees.

Oh well, there is always next summer.
Evil laugh!
Do you love pranks?

Fall Guest Room in Rust

I had a little trouble.

I really wanted to warm up Rebekah's room for the fall.
The giant armoire didn't seem to be yielding enough to dress the bed for the changing of the seasons.
Let me just say, Walmart the weekend before school starts is not the place to be.
Neither is Joann's.
Ey, yi, yi.
The crying and screaming and that was just me!
You should have heard the small children.

Apparently, traditional florals with warmer tones like rust and orange are impossible to find.
All they seemed to have was contemporary florals or paisleys.
It wasn't what I was looking for.

The project was abandoned and I headed home to calmer and quieter surroundings.
While I was out, I recalled a quilt that we had.
It was several years old.

One side is aqua with coral roses. The other side has the same roses on an aqua stripe.
It would work.
We have had the rust throw from Tuesday Morning for several years.

The rust pillows used to be on the deck.

They have been washed and ironed.

The little needlepoint was a brick covered doorstop when I found it.

The rust lamp came from the thrift store.

The book with the chipmunk is just too cute.
Thanks for coming by.

The Odd But Perfect Table

I think I goofed.

I had the perfect cabinet for the narrow nook in between the kid's bedrooms.
This little cabinet used to be in Bill's garage when he was growing up.
It is a "make-do" piece made out of old exterior siding.
I got the itch to paint it.

I like it painted but it is a little too perfect and pristine right now.
If I still had kids at home they would shabby it up in no time.

Moving it to Rebekah's room created a hole in the nook which I filled with the spool cabinet.

It didn't fit very well.
It wasn't there long enough to even get a picture.
It was too short and too deep.

This odd little table was in Bill's office.

It fits perfectly.

I picked it up for only $45.00 at an antique mall in town.
We used to have the best antique malls. Most of them have closed.

Bill got the vintage coffee can from his grandparents.

His dad made the cube with the inlayed stars.

You can read about the denim bolster pillow here
My mother made the needlework picture.

It works.
All but one wall in this room are painted.
We are toying with the idea of a focal wall but I'm having second thoughts.
I'll let you know what we decide.
The spool cabinet has a new location and I'll get some pictures of that soon.
Have a great day.
