Dining Room Repainted

We are still sprucing up the empty nest around here.
Empty except for you know who.

The dining room is immediately to the right as you walk in the front door.
It has been a long while since I painted this room.
it has been dark and moody almost the whole time we have lived here.
After I painted over the builder white it was
Forest Green
Rouge Red
Sage green
and finally Olive.
4 colors in almost 19 years.

This is the truest the olive looked in photos. Most of the time it just looked like poop to be honest with you.

I did some touch ups with what was supposed to
be a can of exact color paint.
Sherwin Williams changed their base formula so it wasn't an exact match.
I've lived with little spots on the wall for a few years waiting to get the gumption to paint.
Mr. Bill laid an engineered hardwood floor about 6 years ago.
A pipe burst in the powder room and ruined all the floors downstairs except the kitchen. Previously there was carpet in this room. I don't love carpet under a table so I was pleased to have wood.

I went with Martha Stewart-Driftwood Gray.
A nice neutral gray.
Gray kind of drives me nuts. It is very hard not to get something that reads too blue, violet or green.
I searched google images and so far like what I see done with this color.

I bought some pewter curtains at one of the thrift stores a few years ago.
I knew they were destined for the dining room when I got up the energy to repaint. I think I paid a whopping $7.99 for the pair. They aren't silk but they look and feel like it.
I hung them from the existing rods.

I was finished with the painting in just a few hours. There isn't a lot of cutting out.  Of course my builder wouldn't splurge on trim!
I  have a feeling I will be able to do more photos from this room in the future.
It reads a little green but over all it feels softer and more up to date.
It seems darker on the wall than it did on the chip. I think because Home Depot mixed the Martha color but with Glidden Paint.

I was so impressed with this Glidden, Duopaint and primer in one.
It was one coat coverage over the olive.
Driftwood by Martha Stewart is a beautiful color.

Don't you love my O.R.B. door knob peaking through under the chandelier?
Read about them here and here.

I scrunched up a drop cloth for the center of the table.
My dad made the table in the 50's or 60's. I am so blessed to have it.  I will do a post about it  one day.
Mr. Bill and I picked out the chairs a few years ago. They came
from Freed's Furniture. The store was understanding and let me play with the furniture moving it all around until I found a mix of two styles I liked.
The chairs need to coordinate with the dish dresser and the table my dad made  AND  be not ginormous in size.
Furniture shopping with us is no easy feat.

These pieces of porcelain started my quest for purple and white florals.

My great grandmother painted the roses. I love, love the turquoise.
The roses from the store last week go beautifully with the painting.

I picked up this stained glass at an auction many, many years ago.
I didn't hang it for years because it didn't seem to go with my brand new house.
House isn't new anymore!!

I had a cute helper the day I painted.
She was so perplexed by her friend in the mirror.

I will be showing some more pieces from this room soon.
