Top Posts of 2014

Happy New Year!
Here are my top ten clicked on posts for 2014.

Their show became the inspiration for some summer redecorating.

This post has the most page views of any other post so far.
22,000.
I just celebrated my 3rd year of blogging.
It has been challenging but I still love decorating and posting about it.

Garden Room Changes

Hi everybody,
I hope you are enjoying these last few days of 2014.
I started putting away our Christmas stuff. The big tree will stay up until New Year's Day but the little trees are all taken down and put away.
The sunroom looked a little sparse without the white fluffy tree.

I'd been thinking about an idea for a while and decided to give it a try.
It didn't make any sense that we had a plant stand (baker's rack) outside when we needed the storage inside for plants.

I cleaned it off, cleaned it up and dragged it inside.

Oh my. It's so cute.

Do you know what it reminds me of?

Debra @ Common Ground had a sunporch at her old house.

The baker's rack looks cute with the new white paint and white valances.

The white corrugated tin ceiling provides nice texture for the monochromatic scheme.

We are able to use this room all year.
We have a window unit air conditioner in the summer and space heaters in the winter.

Now we have room for the plants and a few bird trinkets.

Changing things around gets me invigorated for the
post holiday doldrums.

Look for more photos of this room soon.
Thanks for stopping by.

My Favorite Projects of the Year

I was just told to stop putting Christmas away and blog.
That is what I'll do.
Let's recap my favorite posts of the year, shall we?

My top project is our little pool.
It kept me cool all summer.
It was economical and practical and it even looked cute in the yard.

I was able to enjoy the yard so much more than I have in the past because I wasn't baking in 110 degree heat.

It was horrible and messy to do but removing the popcorn from nine of our ceilings this year has felt amazing.
Each room looks cleaner without those ghastly, popcorny shadows dancing everywhere.
I also don't have to worry about hiding them in blog photos anymore.

The two wainscot projects were fun to do and they are so cute.
I learned some stuff in the process as well.

The kitchen looks bigger and more open with the new shelves. This project continues to get compliments from friends and family.

Figuring out that our table used to have leaves and that it would extend was an unexpected discovery.
It has really changed our seating in the dining room.
Bill and I made some leaves and now it extends to seat eight comfortably. Our old table could seat 10 with an extension but it was extremely awkward.

There you have it.
I've quietly blogged while Bill sleeps peacefully upstairs.

Peace This Christmas

"Peace I leave with you; my peace l give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27

"And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil 4:7

No justice, no peace?

No Jesus, no peace.

"For to us a child has been born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

"Now my the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light,
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned." Isaiah 9:2
May you experience the peace and light of Jesus this holiday season.
Merry Christmas!

Cozy Christmas Bedrooms

When the kids moved out we didn't convert the bedrooms to craft or exercise rooms. I left them as guest rooms so the kids would have a place to stay if they needed to spend the night.
I hope some of them will be spending the night on Christmas Eve.
I like to dress them a little for Christmas.

The plaid quilt was on sale last year at Macy's.
It dresses the bed in the office.
I just love it.

The little blue Santa was from the little flea market in New York. He is hand painted and he is adorable.

Rebekah's room got some black plaid flannel pillow cases stitched up from Joann's, a black comforter and a needlepoint pillow.

Jonnie's room got the green Christmas tree blanket, a Santa pillow and

a vintage ceramic Christmas tree is on the night stand.

The house will be ready for overnight guests as soon as I spruce up the bathrooms and run the vacuum.
Are you ready for guests?
